Handrail in Lehi

We just finished a remodel in Lehi. Here is the handrail. The staircase in this home is a little cramped, but we did what we could to mitigate that without removing bearing walls or cutting a hole in the roof.

The simple, square, paint grade balusters are a favorite of mine. They give the handrail a clean look of strength. The newel posts are box newels. I built them myself to save money on the project. Building them saved about $900.

Deck in Farmington

Here's a deck remodel we did in Farmington. They replaced an existing deck.
The only thing left from the original is the footings for the large posts.

The handrail is redwood, which is an excellent exterior wood. It looks great but it does need some tlc: it has to be stained every couple of years.

The deck is a composite material put down with a hidden fastener system. Small metal clips are installed in the cracks between boards below the surface level. You cannot see the screws that hold the boards.

Barn Door

Here's a Barn Door in that vacation home in Summit County.
This is a very interesting decorative door and can also solve some some design problems.

Paneling in Sundance

Here is a bedroom in a cabin up at Sundance in Provo Canyon. We did paneling on all the walls. Most got a wainscot (paneling up three feet), but the wall at the head of the bed got a substantial panel system. It includes a 'boxes within boxes' pattern and some raised panels in the in-most boxes. The whole thing has been distressed to go with the old-world theme of the rest of the cabin. Overall this was a great addition to a splendid room.

Radius Door Casing

One of my favorite pieces of custom carpentry is radius casing. Radius openings, windows, and doors are a great accent for homes.
