Sneak peak into our Historic Home Project in Lehi

Here's a little sneak peak into our Historic Home Project in Lehi.

First we have a built in closet unit that I did in one of the bedrooms. We do these because old houses have them, and because it can be a significant space savings in a smaller room. 

In that same room, the brick on the chimney ended up exposed. I've received mixed reviews on it. 

 

This house came with a very nice clawfoot tub; but the tub was in bad shape. A little TLC and now it's as good as new. 

Here's another built in closet in the smaller bedroom. It was a work in progress when I left today.

This project has been a great opportunity to flex our creativity and ingenuity. It's great to conserve the original woodwork where we can, match it where we have to and compliment it everywhere else. We will be having an open-house to showcase our work on this project in a couple of months. I'll send out updates as I have more information.

Bookshelves in Pepperwood

Thanks to my friend Aaron who recommends me to all his neighbors, I found another great project in Pepperwood.

The idea is to create bookshelves for children's books that face out. This makes the books more visually accessable for the kids. Here's a picture I found online that illustrates the idea.

And here is the finished product.

They still need to be painted. The back is solid to provide good support and it gives the shelves the feel of a cabinet, even though they are built in. We included cubby holes by the hearth to stack coloring books and things like that. Overall it was a good addition to this family room.

Gate, Bench and Deck in Draper

I am working on a project in Draper where we are replacing a section of deck. During our design phase, the client dug out one of her architecture books. It was the work of Charles and Henry Green. They were a pretty big deal in arts and crafts movement early last century. 

This photo from the book was the inspiration for what follows.

The deck project needs a gate and a bench. The head designer at Hampton Brother Builders came up with working drawings for the bench incorporating the style from Green and Green.

And this is what they came up with.

Here is the gate that accesses the deck. It is all mortise and tenon joinery and glue. There are no fasteners, except in the hinges. That make it beautiful from both sides.

Matching the theme of the project, we built the bench.

 Notice the Cloud Lift across the top rail (that's the top of the back) and the apron (the part that would be behind your knees if you're sitting down).  The panels on either side of the bench and on the end tables are copper veneer; it should age beautifully.

I'm calling this After and Before, because I think the best pictures are the 'after' shots and I want everyone to see them first. This is a taste of what we do at Hampton Brother Builders.

 Here is a project we recently finished in Lehi. It's right across the street from the Bandwagon Park, for those of you who know Lehi.



New siding and windows have drastically improved the look and the life of this home.

These next three pictures are from the same spot. We created a more attractive entrance to the master bedroom. and converted part of the living room into another main floor bedroom. The hardwood was hidden under the carpet, and we finished that as well.

The Master Bedroom had two small closets. We used that space for a closet in the other bedroom and built a walk-in closet on the other side of the Master.

The Kitchen just needed a little TLC. New tile, cabinets, appliances and paint. We also added a small Transom above the door.

House in Lehi, For Sale

Here's one of our recent projects. This is a newly remodeled home in Lehi. Its an older home but it dolled up nicely. It's for sale; contact me for information.

 The kitchen has been entirely rebuilt. It has all new cabinets, appliances, tile, counter tops. Everything is very nice.

New Carpet, doors, paint, closets, lights, mill work, handrail, windows, cabinets, fixtures, bathrooms, tile, stucco and paint. This home looks great.
